What is marketing funnel?
A marketing funnel is the entire marketing activity that converts visitors from awareness of your brand to become a customer through different stages. Each stage has one goal that solves a specific problem and is also a bridge for the next stage in your customer journey.
The traditional marketing funnel has four stages (AIDA):
Awareness: The first step of the marketing funnel is to let your potential customers know that your company and product exist. You can do this by running social media Ads, Google Ads, YouTube Ads, or organically through blogs or YouTube videos.
Interest The next step of the marketing funnel is to maintain the audience’s interest in your company and product. Once they know about your product, try to engage with them, and build trust between you and your potential customers.
You can do this by sending newsletters to them on a regular basis
Decision: Review and consider taking action (Buy, leave information, join webinar …)
Action: Call to Action (leave email, register for the webinar, purchase, ..)
If you have done the above two steps correctly, then there are very high chances that customers will buy your product instead of your competitor’s product. Moreover, in the third step, the marketing funnel slightly changes to the sales funnel.
What is a Sales Funnel?
The sales funnel is a part of the sales funnel that helps you convert a visitor to lead and become a customer. In online marketing, sales funnel is usually built from multiple landing pages that connect together.
First, we take someone to a page that only has one goal: to get their name, email address, and contact information (a squeeze page).
From there, we take those people who became leads into a sales process to sell the one product or service they’re looking for. After they purchase, I direct them to the upsell or down-sell page to increase card value and help us make more profits.
When I create my first funnel, my goal is not to make a profit, the goal is to break even. Profitable will come when I sell another product through email marketing.

There is a fragile border between the marketing funnel vs sales funnel. Moreover, this small border exists somewhere between the evaluation and commitment phases.
However, these terms are used interchangeably due to which differentiation them becomes even more difficult.
But the salient difference between the sales funnel and marketing funnel is in their context of use.
Nowadays, most companies use the mix of these two funnels to support their marketing strategy. This also makes it difficult for marketers to understand the difference between these two.
In my experience, Sales Funnel is part of the marketing funnel.
To be clear, the marketing funnel helps you bring potential customers to the front of the door, and the sales funnel is similar to cloning a salesperson and having them guide your prospect through the entire sales process until they reach your desired destination.

However, you need to understand that there are some similarities in both funnels, but at some time, both of the funnels have some differences too.
Both of the funnels are important one is important to capture the attention of leads, and the other is important to push the leads to buy a product from your company.
