I’m going to show you how to choose the correct handle or the username of your camp and the right name the account in order to appear high on search engine and still be relevant to your business.
Most important things to remember:
- The simpler your @Handle is to explain the better. Consider using periods, or one word to describe the niche you are in.
- Simply use your Brands name as your account name. If your name is ambiguous, you can use a descriptive word too.
- Make your Display Picture a square, and as simple as possible.
- Your Bio should be simple, descriptive, and well spaced with your CTA at the very end so you can use the URL feature.
If you’re not already familiar with what an Instagram handle is? That’s totally fine.
It’s basically Instagram’s way of saying username.
So the really cool thing about your Instagram handle is it’s the only thing on your account that is going to be unique to your account.
Someone else can have the same name is you the same job as you the same bio as you. They can even post similar content or your content to without your permission but they cannot take your Instagram handle.
Everyone has their unique identifier and this is used throughout the Instagram app in order to identify other people.
For example right now:
You can see at the very top. @pengjoon is displayed because that’s his Instagram handle. So it gets put up there on the top bar on your profile page.
It also comes up in search results so people can find you this way. And it also comes up whenever you comment on someone else’s photo or video.
That’s what they’re going to be seeing and that’s what they’re going to be cooking in order to get to your profile.
So it’s a very important aspect optimize.

How to choose your Handle

You don’t stress too much about choosing the handle, name, Bio or your photo. You can be changed anytime you want. So no stress let’s just keep rolling through the characteristics of our profile.
Perfecting your Instagram account Display Picture
The photo of your Instagram account is pretty exciting. Because this is the visual representation that you get for your business account. Now I’m sure your business already has logos and already has images that you could use.
I’m here to show you which ones will get the best results on Instagram.
Once we market your account.
The first rule I have here in front of you is your photo really should be square.
So when your photos are square the circle representation of your photo will look very symmetrical and very clean.
I recommend that you upload a square photo. The minimum dimensions for your photo on Instagram is 110 x 110 and this will be the actual size that it displays your photo at.
So, therefore, I recommend a 500 by 500 or anywhere close to 500 by 500 as long as it’s a square. Because it’ll be a higher resolution photo of your display picture and will come up more clearly on other people’s Instagram feeds.
Rule number two is to have a symbolic logo or a symbolic representation of your business.
Personal Brands / personal account/ Small biz
So I’ve touched a little bit on personal brands. If you want to be a personal brand or a more traditional brand on Instagram. There’s no right or wrong answer and you will succeed with both.
But if you wanted to be a personal brand it means you are the face of your business.
So if you have a personality and you really want to be the face of your business and identify yourself. As a personal brand a more professional brick and mortar store you offer accounting services.
I’d definitely go with the more traditional brand and stick with the simple logo.
However, for those of you who are personal brands. I strongly recommend you use a really close up photo of your face or a slight distance photo of your upper torso and face.
Optimize your Instagram Bio
Now before we edit that I want to go through the do and don’t and the best practices for your bio in order to come up with search results. And in order to showcase your account profile to people. In order to try to entice them to get them to your Website or to follow you on Instagram.
So we can do that now.
First sell your account to your target market…
Sell your Instagram account. Not your services/ Product.
- What would make your target audience Click the follow Button after reading Bio?
- Use appropriate emojis.
Research your competitors…
_Use Their Bio as inspiration for yours.
Spacing your Bio to look aesthetically pleasing…
_Craft your Bio in the “notes” app and copy it over.
CTA – Call To Action.
In marketing, a call to action (CTA) is an instruction to the audience to provoke an immediate response.

And once you know how to post content on Instagram that really does accelerate your growth. Because the more you get out that, the more there is for people to find, and more there is for them to check back to your business page and Following.
Photo licensing and Image Ownership on Instagram
Before we dive deep into the content and had a source and find your content and posting engaging content that your fans love.
The important thing to talk about is licensing.
Do you need permission?
- Yes, share on social media, and help something go “viral” is generally a great thing .. But you need permission.
- Ask permission
- Credit the original artist / Creator.
- Make picture your own.

This gets asked about a lot and it’s really important because when you’re representing your business you don’t want to be posting things in a lot of posts or copyrighting other people’s work without crediting them.
And we want to make sure that you are familiar with the rules of Instagram before we go ahead and post on that.
We’re going to start with the official statement from Instagram.
So Instagram says “we can provide you with any legal advice if you’re not sure that you’re legally authorized to use the content do not post on Instagram posting copyrighted content without permission.”
Might be a violation of the law.
If you’ve already posted that you should remove it from Instagram. Now the thing you have to remember about Instagram is that they are going to be very very conservative because they want to cover themselves.
They want to make sure that their business and their platform has put out the right vibe and making sure that people aren’t just repeating each other’s content.
So I’m officially in making this cause I don’t agree with Instagram because I have to say don’t use anything that you don’t have permission for.
And make sure that you are not using copyrighted or trademarked content on your Instagram page.
Now the purpose of social media is something to explore in this lecture and it’s important to know that sharing something on social media and helping something go viral is generally a great thing.
If you’re a photographer and you took a really cool photo and someone promoted it to their audience crediting you and linking back to your Instagram profile.
And that went really big and got you 10000 followers and then their fans shared it and they weren’t really big and got you to know 10000 followers and people now love your work that is inherently a great thing.
But the thing about that is not everyone wants that to happen.
So, therefore, you definitely need that permission in order to do that. So reaching out to people and asking is really easy asking you to share something.
I want to stress that you can very very easily make pitches your own.
RePost for Instagram
There’s a great app to help you.
It’s called “Repost for Instagram” and it’ll help you repost someone else’s content on Instagram if it’s something that you liked.
But the key here is to make sure you have that permission. And if you post it, it’s up to you if you don’t have the permission.
Always credit the original artist. If your post shows up, you’re not going to get a lot of hate, backlash, Instagram suspending or banning your account.
Because you’re stealing other people’s work.
So always credit the original artist even if you do or don’t have permission to use that content.

Don’t set limited rules for yourself.. Just express your self, and your Business and SEE What people like.
The Best Time to Post on Instagram
There’s no real hard and fast rules and actually doesn’t even matter that much. Although you can get small changes in results if you optimize your post schedule and post time.
How often should I post?
- Different for Every niche!
- Minimum 1x/week
- Maximum 21x/week
So how often should you post is a very popular question that people ask on Instagram. Unfortunately, I can’t answer this specific to your business.
Because it’s different for every single Niche depending what type of business you own and what your target audience expects from your type of business.
But I can give you broad guidelines that you can work between posting a minimum of once a week is pretty important because you want to make sure people know that you’re still active on Instagram.
So people who don’t unfollow you all get annoyed by the lack of content that you’re sharing.
I would say that at the minimum for 99 percent of knishes Unless of course, you have a specific strategy where you or anyone to post super high-quality things once every two weeks that may be fine if that works for you.
Maximum is 21 times a week which is three times a day.
You really don’t want to be clogging up people’s news feeds and you can’t maintain a high quality of post if you’re posting 10 times a day. Because it’s just impossible to do.
So make sure you’re posting quality stuff. You can post three maybe four times a day.
And You just have to be careful that if people see you too much in their news feed and don’t like what you post that day.
When during the week is the best time to post.
You can see this graph in front of me. And basically, this graph is the data from 60000 different Instagram posts and the average amount of likes they got depending on what day that they were posted.
What I want to share with you is there really isn’t that much of a difference between posting in media on any day of the week.
If you have something really important to post I do recommend posting on on Wednesday. But just to make it easy if there’s nothing important.
Looking at the time which as you can
You can see there are three really optimal times to post.
And this graph is based on the same 60000 posts as the day of the week graph that you just saw. So it’s got a lot of information going into it.
The three best times free to post this graph is on Eastern Standard Time.
So just to point out the three times it’s 2 a.m, 5 p.m and 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in the USA.
I would take note of these three times and see how you’re not going to be posting more than three times a day.
Just try to watch out between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. which is the regular workday. There’s a lot of competition for your photo to be viewed by a follower.
Increase your Image and video Exposure
I’m going to show you three really powerful strategies to make sure your images get the most exposure as possible both to your current followers and to potential new followers.
So those three points are going to be going over:
- Social Proof
- Social Share
Hashtags on Instagram
So if you are that familiar with hashtags already. I’m going to give you a really cool framework to be able to understand them.
Because they are a relatively new phenomenon in social media and the way that I look at them is that hashtags searchable buckets of categories.
That you can place your photos into and why they’re really good is because people are constantly searching in these buckets to get photos of whatever they’re searching for.
So someone may be searching for photos of adventures. And anyone who’s placed their photo in this bucket or who have tagged their photo with hashtag Adventure. They will come up and people will be able to see your photo.
Even though they don’t know your business or if you are.
And they’ll be able to organically discover what you’re about.
The second part of this framework is you can also create your own bucket at any time.
So the general ones as listed on the screen such as Adventure’s work Funny anything like love. A lot of buckets already exist because they’re popular if you want to you could just put the hashtag on any word.
Don’t be hesitant to put hashtags in your photos.
I know a lot of people are nervous about this simply just any common words or any words that relate to your images.
Put the hash or the pound sign first and then write the word and you’ll get a lot of people discovering your images this way.
Now on the surface level, it doesn’t look that important for your Instagram photos but it really does make a huge impact as the effect of social proof. So there something you can do:
- Tell your friends and family when you post
- Use Like CTA’s within your photo description(250%)
- Use Social Proof apps (like Potion / Magic Liker)
Cross Promoting on social media

I know a lot of you may not have the largest social media accounts on other platforms but it really does help.
Even if you have small audiences on each of these platforms that you bring them together so that everyone is following you everywhere.
And you know all your social media accounts grow this is really crucial in a lot of people missed this step.
But Instagram make it really easy to share any content that you’re posting to Instagram onto your Facebook, Twitter Tumblr, Flickr or Foursquare accounts Facebook and Twitter are the big ones they’re really going to help tumblr too if you use that.
Most important things to remember:
- Best times to post are 2 am, 5 pm, and 10 pm (Eastern Standard Time in US)
- Potential themes of what you can post on Instagram include: Your products in use, Behind the scenes, Your face, Quotes, Humour, Short videos, Throwback #tbt, Personal adventures / what’s happening now.
- Social proof is key in creating heart momentum for your media. Utilize hashtags, friends, and family, and like apps to help your content thrive.
